Setting up an account with Clickatell

FoodStorm integrates with Clickatell to allow SMS notifications to be sent from certain parts of the system. In order to send SMS messages, you will need an account with Clickatell. You can sign up for a Clickatell account via their website here:

Note: When signing up for an account you must select Developers' Central as the product you want to sign up for.

Once you have an account, there are a few steps you must complete to allow FoodStorm to connect to your Clickatell account:

  1. Login to your Clickatell account via their login page: https://www.clickatell.com/login (choose Developers' Central as the product)
  2. From the menu at the top of the page, click APIs > Set up a new API.
  3. Next to HTTP, click Add HTTP API.
  4. Write down your API ID, you'll need this later.
  5. Click Edit Settings (located below your API ID).
  6. Set Automatically convert mobile numbers into international format to ON, then select your Country.
  7. Set Enable your app to receive message delivery notifications to ON. In the Your URL field, enter the following:

    https://app.foodstorm.com/sms/event

  8. Click Save Changes.

Next, sign into FoodStorm and complete the following steps (you must have Administrator permission to do this):

  1. Click Settings.
  2. On the Settings page, click Plug-ins from the menu at the top of the page.
  3. Locate the Clickatell plug-in, then click Activate.
  4. Enter your Clickatell Username, Password and API ID that you wrote down earlier.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Sign out of FoodStorm, then back in again for the change to take effect.

Sender ID

By default, SMS messages will come from the mobile number assigned to you by Clickatell. You can optionally request an alternative "sender id" that will appear on people's phones - such as your company name.

You can request a Sender ID in Clickatell by following these steps:

  1. Login to your Clickatell account via their login page: https://www.clickatell.com/login (choose Developers' Central as the product)
  2. Click Manage Account at the top of the page, then select Manage Sender ID from the sub-menu.
  3. Click Add Sender ID.
  4. Enter a Sender ID and a reason why you would like to use that ID.

You will then need to wait for Clickatell to approve the Sender ID. Once the Sender ID is approved, you must specify the Sender ID in FoodStorm:

  1. Click Settings.
  2. On the Settings page, click Plug-ins from the menu at the top of the page.
  3. Locate the Clickatell plug-in, then click Edit.
  4. In the Sender ID field, enter your sender ID exactly as is specified in Clickatell.
  5. Click Save.
